(Huntersville) – Karen Bentley of Huntersville formally announced her candidacy for North Carolina District 13 in the U.S. House of Representatives. District 13 is the result of the recent redistricting and includes the northern suburbs and western edge of Mecklenburg County, Gaston, Cleveland, Polk, Rutherford, McDowell, and Burke counties. Bentley is a well-respected Republican leader with deep experience in representing her constituents having served northern Mecklenburg County for eight years on the Board of County Commissioners.
The US Constitution grants “we the people” individual liberties and freedoms and expressly limits the powers of the Federal government. “Over the past nine months, I have witnessed for the first time in my lifetime a breathtaking attack on our cherished way of life by an Administration bent on controlling all aspects of our lives. Biden’s Build Back Better plan is nothing short of a ‘take away more’ scheme; shifting power and freedom from American citizens and businesses to a centralized bureaucracy destined to shift power from states, citizens, and businesses to the Federal government,” notes Bentley.
In a recent Rasmussen poll, 70% of respondents (U.S. likely voters) believe the country is on the wrong track. Because of this and other factors, Karen believes that Republicans have a significant opportunity to regain control of the House in 2022. However, she notes, with opportunity comes the great responsibility to act in a meaningful way to reign in the overreach of the Biden administration and its Democrat allies in the House and Senate. “We should challenge every action coming out of the White House that does not meet Constitutional muster; there is a reason our Founders placed the duties of Congress in Article 1 – giving those representatives that are closest, and most accountable to, the people, the highest authority over the laws of our great nation.”
Karen has a three-decade career in healthcare in the for-profit, not-for-profit, and insurance sectors; experiencing first-hand the regulatory impacts of the Federal government and how those regulations can either enhance or limit business operations and quality patient care. Additionally, Karen has served locally, representing 200,000+ constituents in Mecklenburg County on the Board of County Commissioners. During her tenure on the Board, she was responsible for leading the effort to return over $100 million to the pockets of Mecklenburg County taxpayers – both individuals and businesses. Additionally, Karen has a solid record of voting against tax increases, while supporting needed infrastructure improvements to accommodate the impacts of population growth. Karen is pro-family, pro-business, and most importantly, deeply dedicated to the restoration of our Constitutional order, because with that, We the People return to the driver’s seat in this great land.
